The lifeless body of a 17-year-old student, Adegoke Adeyemi, was on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, found hanging on a tree in Offa, Kwara State.
Adeyemi, a student of Offa Grammar School, was believed to have hanged himself as a result of his being asked to repeat SSS1 class after failing the promotional examination to SSS2.
Disclosing this on Wednesday, August 3, the police image-maker in the state, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, said that it was brought to the notice of the Divisional Police Officer, Offa Division, at about 3:34pm.
The scene of the incident was to have been behind Ariya Garden Hotel, Offa.
According to the PPRO, a team of policemen from the divisional headquarters was swiftly drafted to the scene, from where the boy’s corpse was removed and taken to General Hospital, Offa for autopsy.
He added that investigation into the incident was ongoing.
The state Commissioner, Tuesday Assayomo, in his comment advised parents to monitor their children and show them love at all times, adding that though suicide is not a crime, attempt to commit suicide attracts arrest and prosecution.
