The Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) has challenged the Oyo State governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, to provide evidence for his corruption allegation against the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli.
The organisation warned that Adekanmbi could face a defamation suit if he failed to substantiate the allegation, describing it as an attempt to damage Alli’s reputation ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The Director of Media and Publicity of SSACO, Mr Bisi Oladele, made the position known in a statement issued on Saturday.
Oladele accused Adekanmbi of using a radio interview to distort historical facts and score political points instead of presenting his plans for the development of Oyo State.
He insisted that Alli’s record as former chairman of Ibadan North Local Government contradicted the allegations, noting that the senator maintained prompt salary payments and prioritised workers’ welfare during his tenure.
According to the organisation, Alli’s performance earned him an award from the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Oyo State.
SSACO argued that the financial difficulties experienced by local governments following the Federal Military Government’s January 1993 policy on staff promotions and salary increases were nationwide challenges caused by inadequate allocations.
It said the problems continued beyond Alli’s tenure and were later addressed through institutional measures, including the establishment of the National Primary Education Commission in 1997 and the introduction of first-line charges for teachers’ salaries by 1999.
The campaign organisation accused Adekanmbi and his political associates of exploiting the historical challenges to mislead voters and discredit the APC candidate.
It also faulted Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration over what it described as the weakening of local government administration in the state.
SSACO said Alli would strengthen the administrative and financial capacity of the 33 local government areas if elected governor, with a focus on effective grassroots governance and improved service delivery.
It added that the APC candidate planned to reconstruct feeder and access roads to facilitate transportation and boost economic activities across the state.
The organisation expressed confidence in Alli’s chances in the 2027 election, urging Adekanmbi to substantiate his claims and engage in issue-based political discussions rather than what it described as attempts to rewrite history for partisan advantage.
