Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with Agunechamba vigilante members, successfully foiled an attempted armed attack on Ezinifite Community, Nnewi South Local Government Area in the early hours of Monday, October 27, 2025, neutralising one of the attackers.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the foiled planned attack was as a result of swift response and resistance from combined security team, leading to a gun duel with the armed attackers.
Confirming this in a statement, the Command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said that other members of the armed gang escaped into a surrounding bush with suspected bullet injuries.
He stated further that the operatives also recovered one pump-action gun from
the scene, while the remains of the neutralised suspect, was evacuated from the scene of the incident.
“Meanwhile, offensive and intelligence follow-up operations are currently ongoing in collaboration with Police tactical teams to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects,” the PPRO noted.
The Commissioner of Police, Dr Ikioye Orutugu, who commended the vigilance and bravery of the local security architecture, assured residents that the Command remains fully committed to securing all communities, especially as the November 8, 2025 Governorship Election draws near.
