The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 17-year-old suspect, identified as Usman Dauda, over the alleged defilement of a three-year-old girl in Saki.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, September 24, said the suspect was arrested following a distress report lodged at the Saki Divisional Police Station on September 17, 2026, after the child went missing while being picked up from school.
According to the police, a localized search led to the recovery of the child by the roadside in a distressed condition.
Preliminary inquiries reportedly indicated that the suspect had allegedly taken her into his apartment, where the incident occurred.
Detectives subsequently visited and secured the scene, leading to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of physical evidence said to be connected with the alleged offence.
The police said the child was immediately taken to a medical facility in Saki, where she is receiving medical treatment and psychotherapeutic care.
The Command reiterated its zero-tolerance stance against child abuse and sexual violence, assuring that the identity and privacy of the child and her family would be protected in accordance with the Child Rights Act and established protection guidelines.
The case has since been transferred to the Gender Desk of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, for further investigation and prosecution.
The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report cases of violence against children and other vulnerable persons to the nearest police station.
