Three suspected armed robbers met their Waterloo in the early hours of October 14, 2022, when they succumbed to bullet injuries in a gun duel with operatives of Benue State Police Command.
Thenewsbearer learnt that at about 2:30am, a distress call was received from Afia, in Ukum Local Government Area that armed robbers had invaded the neighbourhood.
This led to the deployment of a patrol team to the area swiftly, and on getting to the scene, the armed men reportedly engaged the police operatives in a gun duel.
They, however, bowed to the superiority of firepower of the law enforcement officers, resulting in three of the suspects sustaining gunshot injuries.
Confirming the incident in a statement, the command’s spokeswoman, SP Catherine Anene, said that the injured suspects were taken to a nearby hospital where they were confirmed dead.
The PPRO stated that other suspects escaped with bullet wounds.
Items recovered from them included a locally-made pistol with five rounds of live ammunition, a cutlass and some items suspected to be charms.
Anene added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.
The state Commissioner of Police, Wale Abass, who commended the efforts of members of the community in assisting the police in the operation, assured them of quick response to distress calls.
