Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, neutralized three suspected kidnappers in Zaki-Biam area of Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the suspected kidnappers reportedly abducted an Igbo trader, one Omemma Chimobi, within the town.
The state Security Adviser, Lt.Col. Paul Hemba (retd), who claimed to have been given the report by OPWS top official, said that the troops worked on intelligence.
He stated that after getting a tip-off, troops of sub-sector 2, Zaki Biam trailed the bandits through yam market road as they were looking for escape routes.
The Security Adviser said: “On sighting the troops, the bandits opened fire from their red Toyota Corolla wagon but troops returned superior fire power and neutralised three of the bandits, and the kidnapped victim, Omemma Chimobi, was rescued from the vehicle.”
Hemba further explained troops recovered some items from the suspected kidnappers which included an AK-47 rifle, three loaded magazines, a Toyota Corolla wagon, a desert camouflage, one woodland camouflage and handsets.
