Officials of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) on Sunday, April 26, received a 17-year-old Nigerian girl who was trafficked to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, for sexual exploitation, following her safe return to Nigeria through the help of the Nigerian Embassy in Monrovia, Liberia.
The teenager, an indigene of Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State, arrived in Nigeria accompanied by the Chargé d’Affaires of the Nigerian Embassy in Monrovia, Ambassador (Mrs) R.O. Mohammed.
Thenewsbearer gathered from the X handle post by the organisation that the victim was deceived and trafficked to Abidjan for sexual exploitation.
She reportedly escaped from her traffickers to Liberia where she was later assisted by the Nigerian Embassy.
The teenager was formally handed over by the Ambassador to NAPTIP officials at the airport in Nigeria for further care, protection and necessary intervention.
Meanwhile, NAPTIP has commenced appropriate procedures to support the victim while investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend individuals involved in the trafficking network.
NAPTIP reiterated its commitment to combating human trafficking and safeguarding the rights and dignity of victims.
