A 51-year-old man, Mr Maduabuchi Linus Onwuamanam, was attacked and gruesomely murdered at Oremeji area of Mokola, on Sango-Roundabout Road, Ibadan , Oyo State on Saturday, May 29, 2021.
Onwuamanam, who traded in building materials, was reportedly attacked by the assailants numbering four, while he was in a relaxation spot in the area.
Thenewsbearer learnt that one of the assailants shot the businessman, who, however, was not hit by the bullets.
In a bid to save his life, Onwuamanam reportedly attempted an escape, but the attackers went after him with the motorcycle which brought them for the operation.
After finding him where he tried to hide, the attackers started inflicting machete cuts on him.
Thereafter, they were said to have shot him point blank, after which they stabbed him severally to make sure he was dead.
Thenewsbearer further gathered that Onwuamanam’s wife, Christianah, reported the incident to the police at Mokola Division at about 10:10pm, same day.
The deceased was said to have owned a shopping complex, named Blessed Maduabuchi, behind former WAATECO building at Oke Bola area of the city and also owned several shops at Labaowo market, close to the shopping complex.
An Igbo man, who spoke under anonymity, described the deceased as someone on the quiet side who was not used to mingling with many people and would not join in ethnic or national politics.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Adewale Osifeso, who confirmed the incident when contacted, however could not give any details.
The PPRO gave the assurance that investigations had begun to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident, with the aim of apprehending the perpetrators.
