‎Abuja — Nigerian troops neutralised 274 insurgents in June 2026 as the country recorded 882 security incidents that claimed at least 792 lives across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, according to a new security report.
‎
‎The report, released by SARI Global, a risk intelligence and security analysis firm, revealed that despite sustained military operations against armed groups, insecurity remained widespread, with attacks ranging from insurgency and banditry to communal violence and criminal activities.
‎
‎According to the report, security forces intensified operations during the month, resulting in the deaths of 274 insurgents. However, the high number of recorded attacks and fatalities underscores the persistent security challenges confronting the country.
‎
‎The 882 incidents documented in June affected communities across Nigeria, highlighting the continued threat posed by insurgent groups, armed bandits, kidnappers and other non-state actors.
‎
‎ The report noted that hundreds of civilians were among those killed during the period.
‎
‎Analysts say the figures reflect the complex nature of Nigeria’s security environment, where military gains against insurgent groups are often offset by recurring attacks on communities and critical infrastructure.
‎
‎The latest data comes amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb violence in several parts of the country through coordinated military operations and intelligence-led interventions.
‎
‎ Authorities have repeatedly pledged to strengthen security measures and restore stability in affected regions.
‎
‎Security experts have called for a combination of military action, improved intelligence gathering, community engagement and socio-economic interventions to address the root causes of insecurity and reduce the frequency of attacks nationwide.
