Operatives of Ogun State Police Command apprehended two armed robbery suspects while carrying out robbery operation in Agbara, Ado Odo Ota Local Government Area.
The suspects, Olanrewaju Sikiru (28) and Olayemi Obisesan (25), were arrested following a distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer, Agbara police station, SP Saleh Dahiru, at about 1:30 am, that armed robbers had invaded Area 8 of OPIC Estate, Agbara, and were terrorising the residents.
The police spokesman in the command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who spoke on the arrest, said that the call made the DPO to move police operatives to the scene.
“On sighting the policemen, the robbers opened fire on them and the team retaliated. At the end of the encounter, two among the robbers were arrested with gunshot injuries while others escaped with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.
“On interrogation, the arrested suspects informed the police that they came all the way from Lalupon area of Ibadan in Oyo State to join others in Agbara for the robbery operation,” the PPRO stated.
Items recovered from them included two double-barrel locally-made pistols, 12 live cartridges, two expended cartridges, two HP laptops, 18 different phones, a sum of N14,590 and one Bajaj motorcycle with registration number DGB 411 VY.
Oyeyemi said that the Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, who commended the quick response of his men to distress call, had ordered a massive manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang.
The police commissioner also appealed to members of the public, especially hospitals, to notify the police if anybody with gunshot injury is seen.
