•Urges Olubadan to avoid partisanship
A group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, the Oyo PDP-Visionaries, has described as anarchists chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other highly-placed individuals who it said have yielded themselves to the evil plan of destabilising Oyo State and derailing Governor Seyi Makinde, declaring that they will not succeed in their mission.
The group made its position known on Tuesday, April 14, following reports that some APC chieftains and a leading royal father had hatched plans to buy over the House of Assembly to impeach Governor Makinde.
The group said that such evil plan is doomed to fail because Oyo State residents will reject it.
Coordinator of the Oyo PDP-Visionaries, Qudus Olayide, in a statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan, maintained that those behind the impeachment plot failed to do their homework to know that residents of Oyo State won’t allow unscrupulous elements to jeopardise the peace being enjoyed in the state.
According to him, the state has become too sophisticated to allow a repeat of 2006 in 2026, adding that the plan is being driven by pure selfish, devilish tendencies, as individuals fingered in the plot, as well as former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, are actually acting different scripts for pecuniary gains.
The group declared that though the wife of the former Governor of Oyo State, Mrs Florence Ajimobi has distanced herself from the plot, the statement by the APC that Makinde ought to have been impeached a long time ago showed clearly that the party and some of its leaders have a case to answer.
Noting that the people of Oyo State remained solidly behind Governor Makinde, the group warned the anarchists to steer clear of Oyo State or face the unleashing of the pent-up anger of the masses, who have been stretched beyond limits by the evil policies of the APC-led Federal Government.
In the same vein, the Oyo PDP-Visionaries advised the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Senator Rashidi Ladoja, to steer clear of politics and not allow the APC to tarnish his image as a leading royal father, as according to the group, the frequent visits of the monarch to Aso Rock were bound to be used against him by the APC, a party of desperate individuals.
The group frowned at the fact that Olubadan’s name could come in the same sentence with Makinde’s impeachment, noting how the governor has deferred to the former Governor and demonstrated fidelity to the father-son relationship they have built over the years.
It noted particularly that receiving Fayose in the middle of the whole drama also sent a wrong signal, warning Oba Ladoja to live above board and not drag the highly esteemed throne into dirty politics.
