Following a search-and-rescue operation at Gando forest in Bukkuyum Local Government Area by operatives in Zamfara State Police Command, 10 women and a year old toddler have been rescued.
The rescued victims were abducted on Monday, October 17 when a gang of bandits invaded Manye village in Anka Local Government Area.
They were held captive in Gando forest in Bukkuyum LG where they spent three days before their rescue.
The police spokesman in the command, SP Mohammed Shehu, who confirmed this on Friday, October 21, said that it was carried out under the leadership of the state Commissioner of Police, Kolo Yusuf.
“When the report was received, the Commissioner of Police deployed additional police tactical operatives to reinforce DPO Anka and vigilante in their rescue operation, a task that was successfully accomplished with the full support of stakeholders especially, the sole administrator of Anka Local Government Area.
“All the rescued victims were taken to the hospital for medical checkup, debriefed by police detectives and handed over to their families,” SP Shehu said.
Commending the sole administrator for the full support and partnership during the rescue operation, the police commissioner congratulated the victims for regaining their freedom, assuring them that all the perpetrators would be apprehended and charged to court for prosecution.
