A 20-year-old man, Aondoaseer Agbadu, was on Thursday, September 14, 2023, arraigned in a Magistrate’s Court by the police in Benue State Command for conspiracy and human organ harvesting.
Thenewsbearer learnt that Agbadu and others at large allegedly lured a 17-year-old boy, Terungwa Swati, to Abuja where one of his kidneys was harvested without his consent or that of his parents.
Other accused persons were said to have run into hiding when the father of the victim reported the case at Aliade police station in Gwer East Local Government area of the state.
At the Magistrate’s Court, Makurdi, police prosecutor, Inspector Godwin Ato, told the court that the case was reported at the police station by one Alexander Swati on August 27.
He said that the case was later transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Aliade, to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Makurdi, for further investigation.
The prosecutor said that sometime in April 2023, Agbadu, of opposite Union Bank, Aliade, conspired with others now at large, deceived and took the teenager to Abuja.
He explained further that while in Abuja, the conspirators operated on Terungwa, harvested one of his kidneys and sold it to another persons without his consent or that of his father.
The prosecutor said that the accused contravened Sections 27 and 20 (1) (2) and (3) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.
He said investigation into the matter was still ongoing and requested for additional time to complete it.
However,no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction.
The Magistrate, who presided over the case, Mr Taribo Atta, remanded the accused at the Federal Maximum Correctional Centre, Makurdi and adjourned the case till October 23 for further hearing.
