Ogun State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of a 25-year-old man, Toye Dominic, whose body was found hanging in a forest near Alagbodagbo Village, Ijebu Igbo, on Thursday, March 13, at about 4:30p.m.
The police spokesperson in the command, CSP Omolola Odutola, who spoke on the incident in a statement, said that officers at Ijebu Igbo Divisional Headquarters were notified by a local hunter, Kareem Olawalose, who discovered the deceased while hunting.
The hunter had told the police that after he discovered the deceased’s body where it hanged, he sought help from a nearby village, where he met the elder brother, Joseph Dominic.
Thenewsbearer learnt that Toye, according to his brother, Joseph, had left for the farm earlier in the morning, but had yet to return home, prompting a search by family members, which was fruitless.
It was further gathered that on arrival at the scene, policemen and villagers observed that the deceased had set aside his farm tools before proceeding further into the forest, where he was found hanging from a tree.
The PPRO said: “No suicide note was found, and family members expressed shock and disbelief over the incident.
“The police have documented the scene with photographic evidence, and the body has been transferred to General Hospital, Ijebu Ode, for further examination.”
Extending the command’s condolences to the deceased’s family and loved ones, the PPRO stated that a thorough investigation would be conducted to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
“We urge the public to remain vigilant and seek support for individuals experiencing distress or emotional struggles.
“Mental health awareness and timely intervention remain crucial in preventing such unfortunate incidents,” CSP Odutola added.
