The Nigeria Police Force has received a delegation from the United States Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) to review ongoing cooperation and explore ways to strengthen bilateral engagement in policing and internal security.
The delegation, led by the Deputy Assistant Secretary of INL, Ms. Maggie Nardi, paid a courtesy visit to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Other members of the delegation included Mr. Jacob Wright, Senior Advisor, INL, and Mr. Grane Douglas, Acting Director, INL Abuja.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Saturday , January 24, 2026, discussions during the meeting focused on existing areas of collaboration between the INL and the Nigeria Police Force, as well as opportunities for enhanced institutional support, capacity building, and internal security development.
Ms. Nardi reaffirmed the commitment of the U.S. government, through the INL, to supporting the Nigeria Police Force with expanded specialised training programmes and the provision of modern operational equipment. She stressed that sustained collaboration remains crucial to strengthening institutional capacity and improving operational effectiveness.
In his response, IGP Egbetokun expressed appreciation for the continued partnership and support of the INL, particularly in the area of tactical capacity development.
He noted that INL-supported training initiatives have had a positive impact on the operational performance of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), citing improved professionalism and discipline among its officers in recent operations.
The Inspector-General further reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to deepening cooperation with the INL and other international partners, while adopting global best practices aimed at enhancing service delivery and ensuring a safer Nigeria.
The visit underscores the growing collaboration between Nigeria and the United States in advancing effective policing and internal security reforms.
