The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ). Oyo State Council, has disassociated itself from the activities of a group of journalists operating under the name ‘Divine Mandate Movement’ within the council, saying that it is not recognised by the union.
In a disclaimer issued and signed by the NUJ chairman, Akeem Abas; and the Secretary, Temidayo Adu, the union warned that any individual or organisation that engages or conducts business with the group does so at their own risk.
The council also called the attention of the Oyo State Government, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other security agencies operating in Oyo State to what it referred to as “the group’s clandestine activities,” which it said “are capable of tarnishing the image of NUJ and putting unsuspecting members of the public at risk of fraudulent activities.”
The union said that the disclaimer was issued to set the record straight and protect the integrity of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Oyo State, urging stakeholders and the public to always verify information or engagements through the appropriate channels of the council.
