Friday, April 10, 2026: Grief has gripped Mbwelle village in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State after gunmen killed eight people, most of them from the same family, in a late-night attack on Thursday.
Residents said the assailants stormed the quiet community under the cover of darkness and opened fire, leaving multiple victims dead and several families shattered.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic and heartbreak as survivors discovered the bodies of their relatives.
Many in the community are still struggling to come to terms with the scale of the loss.
A local community leader, Kefas Mallai, confirmed the incident, describing it as a devastating blow to the village.
He said repeated attacks in the area have left residents living in constant fear.
“This is one too many,” a resident said, lamenting the increasing violence and lack of protection.
The latest killings add to a growing pattern of deadly attacks in Plateau State, where rural communities have continued to bear the brunt of insecurity.
As mourning families prepare to bury their dead, calls are mounting for urgent action to prevent further bloodshed and restore a sense of safety to the troubled region.
