The Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, Michael Falade, has ordered a probe into the circumstances that surrounded the stampede at Emirate Hotel, Ikere-Ekiti, on Sunday, April 19, at about 1a.m. which resulted in the death of two students of Bamidele Olumiluwa University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI) and a hotel staff.
The Command’s spokesman, SP Sunday Abutu, who made this known in a statement, said that preliminary investigation revealed that the students moved to the hotel for a party after their convocation on Saturday, April 18.
“During the party which lasted till the following day, two yet-to-be-identified students had an argument and began to fight. Others around decided to run out of the hotel premises and there was a stampede that claimed the lives of the three persons.
“The bodies of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue for autopsy.”
While sympathising with the relatives and friends of the victims, the Commissioner of Police urged all to remain calm, assuring that no stone will be left unturned concerning the unfortunate incident.
