Abuja – The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has commenced the enforcement of a ban on vehicles with tinted windows and covered number plates, impounding more than 30 vehicles in the process.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed, announced the development on Friday while addressing journalists in Abuja.
According to him, the enforcement exercise follows directives aimed at tackling insecurity and curbing the use of vehicles for criminal activities within the territory.
Muhammed said investigations by the police had revealed that vehicles with tinted windows and concealed number plates were frequently used by criminal elements to evade identification and detection.
He noted that the ban was introduced in the interest of public safety and warned that violators would face prosecution.
“The use of tinted vehicles and covered number plates poses a serious security challenge because they are often used to conceal the identities of individuals involved in criminal activities,” he said.
The police commissioner disclosed that over 30 vehicles had already been impounded since the commencement of the enforcement exercise.
He appealed to residents of the FCT to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by complying with the directive and ensuring their vehicles meet legal requirements.
Muhammed also announced the arrest of suspected kidnappers allegedly involved in criminal operations within the Federal Capital Territory, assuring residents that the command remained committed to protecting lives and property.
The renewed enforcement comes amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to strengthen crime prevention measures and enhance public safety across Abuja.
