The Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU) has come out to deny reports that it had agreed to call off the ongoing strike after meeting with the Federal Government negotiation team led by Dr Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment on Friday.
Earlier reports stated that the government had come to a consensus to increase its offer for Earned Allowances EA to university-based unions and funding for the revitalization of public universities from N65 billion to N70 billion.
Despite the news that ASUU had suspended the eight-month long strike would, ASUU President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi denied knowledge of any agreement to call off the strike.
According to Professor Ogunyemi, the two parties only agreed that ASUU should be permitted to convey the Federal Government’s message to their organs and later send feedback to the government.
