The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has accused former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of allegedly circulating doctored documents and misleading reports ahead of the party’s presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna.
The council’s spokesperson, Dele Alake, who signed a statement on Saturday, alleged that the opposition was deploying fabricated documents, manipulated videos and misleading narratives to discredit the rally and damage the reputations of President Bola Tinubu, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and other APC leaders.
Alake cited a purported letter allegedly written by Governor Uba Sani to the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, claiming that the Kaduna State Government had released N2.3 trillion to host the rally.
He dismissed the alleged expenditure as baseless, arguing that the amount exceeded the combined budgets of Kaduna State for 2024, 2025 and 2026.
According to the statement, the state’s budgets for the three years stood at N458.271 billion, N790.439 billion and N985.9 billion, respectively.
The APC spokesperson also alleged that opposition figures had misrepresented a photograph of a security vehicle on routine patrol near one of the party’s campaign billboards in Kaduna, claiming that the vehicle was deployed to protect the billboard.
He said the photograph was used to promote a misleading narrative, which was subsequently amplified on social media.
Alake further alleged that Atiku and ADC supporters planned to circulate old, doctored and deepfake videos during the rally to create the impression that residents were opposed to the APC.
He claimed that the alleged operation involved artificial intelligence, counterfeit documents and other digital tools designed to manipulate public perception of the campaign.
The council urged Nigerians to verify the authenticity of documents, photographs and videos before sharing them, particularly during the political campaign season.
Alake described the alleged activities as an attempt to undermine the APC’s campaign and called on the public to remain vigilant against misleading information.
The statement did not provide independent evidence to substantiate the allegations against Atiku and the ADC.
