The Oyo State Government has reaffirmed Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to transparency and public interest in the management of government assets, dismissing allegations by the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) over the Cheshire Home land in Eleyele, Ibadan.
In a statement on Tuesday, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, described SSACO’s claims as misleading and unsupported by evidence.
Olanrewaju accused the organisation of using alarmist rhetoric and political speculation to create unnecessary anxiety among residents over an issue on which, he said, the government had neither taken any secret decision nor acted outside the law.
He said the Makinde administration had consistently prioritised transparency, responsible asset management and public infrastructure development since assuming office in 2019.
According to him, the government has invested in schools, hospitals, roads, security infrastructure and other public facilities across the state.
Olanrewaju maintained that government assets belong to the people of Oyo State and that decisions concerning public land and property under Makinde are guided by due process, public interest and the developmental needs of the state.
He also accused the campaign organisation of politicising governance, urging it to base its criticism on verifiable facts rather than speculation.
While acknowledging the importance of constructive criticism in a democracy, the governor’s aide said public debate should be guided by truth, evidence and responsible engagement.
He reiterated that the administration remained focused on sustainable development, economic expansion and improved service delivery, adding that it would not be distracted by what he described as baseless allegations.
