Two suspected armed robbers based in Lagos State, who had been infiltrating Ogun State to carry out robbery operations with their third gang member resident in the state, have been arrested by policemen from the Gateway State.
The suspects, whose names were given as Samuel Sunday (20) and Adeleke Mustapha (22), both residents of Fagba and Ajala areas of Lagos; and Joel Rotimi (19), a resident of Taju Bello Street, Agbado, Ogun State were arrested on Thursday, January 14, 2021.
Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi had disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday, January 17, that arrest was made after a distress call received by the police in Ajuwon Division from residents of Iju Ishaga area of Ajuwon, at about 1:45 a.m., that armed hoodlums, numbering about six, had invaded the area and dispossessed innocent members of the community of their valuables.
The PPRO said that the call made the Divisional Police Officer of Ajuwon Division, SP Andrew Akinseye to lead his men to the area.
On sighting the police, Oyeyemi stated further that the hoodlums took to their heels, but were pursued and apprehended.
“Recovered from them are a cut-to-size locally-made pistol, four Bajaj motorcycles, weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, two voter’s cards and two national Identity cards,” he added.
The police spokesman said that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun had ordered the transfer of the suspects to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
Ajogun also appealed to members of the public to always make use of the command’s control room numbers, which are 08081770416 & 08081770419, whenever in distress, for the police to respond swiftly.
