Eleven suspected cultists, who have been terrorising some communities in Lagos State, have been arrested at different operations carried out by the police operatives attached to Ketu Division.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu said that the suspects were arrested on Friday, January 15, and Saturday, January 16, 2021.

The cultists were said to have been terrorising Owode Elede, Agiliti, Maidan, Afinjuomo, all in Mile 12 area, Ketu, in the state.

The suspects were identified as Yusuf Abiodun, 22; Jamiu Salami, 30; Dare Taiwo, 27; Oluwatobiloba Aberaman; Balogun Taofeek, 18; Samuel Owolabi, 16; Ejemina Godfrey, 39; Godwin Innocent, 22; Kenneth Uduenga, 29; Ayeni Wale, 29 and Lekan Olajide, 22.

The PPRO listed the items recovered from the cultists to include a locally-made pistol with live cartridges, weed suspected to be Indian hemp and assorted charms.

Adejobi said that the state police boss reiterated his commitment to fighting cultism and other crimes in the state to a standstill.

Odumosu also directed that the suspects be handed over to the new Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, for further investigation.

CP Hakeem Odumosu siezed the opportunity to appreciate members of the public in the state for their support in providing intelligence and commitment in making policing easy in the state.

Meanwhile, CP Odumosu received the new Deputy Commisioners of Police, recently deployed to the Lagos State Police Command, in his Ikeja office, just as he harped on better policing.

The new Deputy Commissioners of Police were of Department of Operations, Ahmed Kontangora; Department of Finance and Administration, Bassey Ewah; and State CID, Panti, Yaba, Adegoke Fayoade.

The PPRO disclosed that the Commissioner of Police deliberated with the DCPs on the security situation in the state, and the need to harmonise the anti-crime strategies being put in place for better policing of the state.

Odumosu remarked that every department in the command must synergise with one another, to form a bond towards effective discharge of police duties.

The police boss also charged the DCPs to sanitise their departments, as laziness, unprofessionalism, misuse of power, drunkenness on duty, violation of human rights and inappropriate behaviours would not be tolerated in the command.

He further admonished them to improve on the already existing modern policing platforms in the command.
