A lecturer in the Department of Business Management at the Covenant University, Ota, Dr. Stephen Ikenna, has been arrested by Ogun State Police Command for an alleged forceful sexual act on a 17-year-old student of the institution (names withheld).
Thenewsbearer learnt from a statement issued on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, by the state police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, that the 41-year-old lecturer was arrested on Thursday, March 11, after the student’s parents lodged a complaint at Ota Area Command.
They told the police that their daughter called them on phone from the school that she was invited by the lecturer to his office that day, making her to believe that he wanted to plan a surprise birthday party for her close friend.
But on getting to the lecturer’s office, according to the PPRO, Dr Ikenna locked the door and forcefully had sex with her on top of the table in his office.
Oyeyemi said that when the report was received, the Area Commander in Ota, ACP Muyideen Obe, sent his Juvenile Welfare Centre (JWC) team to the school, where the lecturer was picked.
He added that when Dr Ikenna was questioned on the allegation against him, he admitted having carnal knowledge of the victim, but could not give any reason for his action.
The PPRO said that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
