•As police nab other suspects with human parts, other crimes
FIVE members of a trans-border car-snatching syndicate have been arrested by operatives of the Oyo State police command.
The five suspects were among over 40 suspects paraded at the police headquarters at Eleyele, Ibadan, on Thursday, April 8, 2021, by the state Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko.
Onadeko disclosed that members of the gang had on March 29, 2021, dispossessed one Mr Adegbite Oluwasegun of his Toyota Corolla car, with registration number KTU 453 GE, and some other valuables at gun point, at about 9:30p.m., at Arulogun area of Ojoo in Ibadan.
Following the attack, she stated, the victim quickly reported the incident to the police and operatives of the police command’s Monitoring Unit, led by CSP Olusola Aremu, quickly swung into operation.
In the course of investigation, two of the suspects were first arrested, before three others, including a receiver, were picked up, while the car was recovered from the suspects.
Aside the car, two locally-made guns and 18 live cartridges were also recovered from the suspects.
The suspects were identified as Sheriff Amoo (25), Peter Taiwo a.k.a Pastor (40), Seun Abiodun (28), Salami Rasheed (50) and Kazeem Ibrahim (29).
Speaking with The News Bearer, the receiver, Rasheed, confessed to sending snatched vehicles to a West African country, Burkina Faso after robbery operation carried out at gun point by armed robbery gang members, adding that the vehicles would be sold to unsuspecting buyers.
Rasheed said he had been able to send about seven cars to the West African country.
Other suspects paraded included Afeez Alade (23), Hammed Yusuf (19), and Afeez Oyewo (30), who were arrested by operatives from Agugu Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Ali Ganiyu.
Recovered from them were a Beretta pistol without breech number, a dagger , wraps of Indian hemp and a handset.
The suspects were said to have denied knowledge about the pistol, but one of them, Alade, claimed ownership of the dagger and marijuana.
Also, suspects involved in alleged defilement of two six-year-old girls, possession of human parts, human heart, kidnapping, house burgling, armed robbery, car snatching, murder and arson were shown to journalists.
The Commissioner of Police said that the suspects would be charged to court after the completion of investigation into their cases.
