Two armed robbery suspects were on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, arrested by the Ogun State Command policemen, at about 9:30 p.m., on their way to a robbery operation.
The suspects were identified as Rasheed Ayinde, aged 20 and Matthew Oladipupo, 33 years old.
Police spokesman in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said on Thursday, May 6, that they were arrested when the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Onipanu police station, CSP Bamidele Job was on routine patrol of his area with his men.
The suspects, who were on a motorcycle, reportedly mmmade an attempt to turn when they saw policemen, but were stopped by the team which suspected their movement.
The PPRO stated that a search conducted on them revealed the possession of a locally-made pistol, a live cartridge and assorted charms, which were recovered from them.
“On interrogation, they confessed to being on their way to carry out robbery operation.
“The duo claimed to be living in Abeokuta, but used to operate at Onipanu and Atan Ota areas,” Oyeyemi disclosed.
He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun had ordered the transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
