Operatives of the Area “E” Command, Festac of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two drug peddlers, with the recovery of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit substances from them.
The suspects were arrested on Friday, July 30, 2021, at Dantata area, Mile 2, on Badagry highway at about 6am.
Thenewsbearer learnt through a statement by the command’s police spokesman, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Sunday, August 1 that the police had been intimated of the activities of the drug peddlers who were displaying drugs for sale with impunity around the area.
According to the PPRO, the policemen, acting on the tip-off, raced to the scene, leading to the arrest of one Rabiu Mohammed.
The suspect reportedly confessed that one Sanni Audu was the major dealer/supplier, which made the police to go after the second suspect.
He was promptly picked up after being found with a quantity of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit substances.
Adejobi said that the State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, while reiterating his directive to officers and men of the command to go after criminals and hoodlums in the state, ordered that other members of the syndicate must be apprehended.
He further directed that the illegal items/illicit substances in the custody of the suspects and in any part of the state must be recovered, in order to reduce its quantity in circulation.
The police boss also said that the suspects should be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, for proper investigation and possible prosecution.
Odumosu reassured the general public of adequate security of lives and property, as well as sustainable fight against the menace of drug misuse and abuse in Lagos State.
