•Kidnap Victim Rescued, Guns, Ammunition, Stolen Vehicle Recovered

A drunk rapist, Ayuba Adavo, was on Monday, November 8, 2021, arrested by Delta State Police Command at about 12:10am, after he held his victim hostage at gun point, raped her and slept off.

Making this known on Tuesday, November 9, the command’s spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe, said that the incident was reported by the 25-year-old victim (name withheld) of Sapele Warri Road, that on same date at about 8pm, while she was going along Amagiya road, Sapele, the suspect, aged 34, suddenly blocked her and dragged her to his room.

Threatening to shoot her with a locally-made cut-to-size gun, she said that he forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

Freedom came her way when the suspect slept off as he was reportedly drunk.
The victim, who later noticed that the suspect was fast asleep, sneaked out and ran to Sapele Division to report.

“Consequently, patrol team/detectives were drafted to the scene. The suspect was promptly arrested; one locally-made cut-to-size gun with one live cartridge was recovered from him. Investigation is ongoing,” the PPRO said.

Also, on November 7, at about 10pm, while on operation show of force, Edafe said that the patrol team attached to Sapele Division saw a Toyota Camry car with registration number GRA 291 RL being driven in a suspicious manner.

“The patrol in convoy went after the said vehicle and chased the occupants to Olympia area. The hoodlums, on noticing that the police were chasing them, opened fire on the teams, which was replied by the police.

“The hoodlums, who could not withstand the firepower of the police, abandoned the said vehicle and fled into the bush.

•The recovered vehicle

“Upon searching the vehicle, one locally-made double-barreled pistol and five live cartridges were recovered.

“Investigation has commenced and efforts are in top gear towards arresting the fleeing hoodlums,” he stated.

In addition, on November 7, at about 12 noon, police patrol team from Agbarho division, while on township patrol, sighted a grey colour Lexus 330 SUV with registration number KWL 841 BM.

Noticing the presence of police close to him, the driver had reportedly reversed and sped off.

But the team trailed him to Sobotie Street, Agbarho where the vehicle fell into a ditch. The suspects also quickly disembarked from the vehicle and ran into a nearby bush.

A man, Mudia Efe of Abraka, who told the police that the hoodlums kidnapped him from Abraka, was rescued and the vehicle which belong to the victim was recovered.

The PPRO said that the police were on the haunt for for the fleeing suspects.

The Command also arrested one Ojo Amos, aged 38, of Agbara-Otor, Ughelli North Local Government Area, whose area of specialization was stealing Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards from unsuspecting victims.

•The suspected serial ATM thief

Edafe disclosed that on November 2, at about 1pm, the suspect was arrested after police got a tip-off that the suspect was seen at a POS stand located beside First Bank, Ozoro branch.

When searched, 33 ATM cards and a cash sum of N50,000 were recovered from him.

According to the PPRO, “suspect confessed that he stole one of the cards from one Rufai Abdulahi at Zenith Bank, Kwale branch, and left immediately.

“He said he later withdrew the sum of N250,000 from the victim’s account.

“Preliminary investigations later revealed that the suspect usually stays behind his victims at the ATM stands, waiting and targeting people who he feels are not too educated, old women/children; and once he notices that they are having problem operating the ATM, he moves closer to them pretending to be a bank staff trying to help them, and in the process, he swaps the ATM card.”

Suspect also confessed that he used to keep an eye on victims as they press their ATM card pins, memorize it, and after swapping the ATM cards, use either a POS stand or ATM to empty their bank accounts.

He said he had been doing this for the past four years.

In his comment, the state Commissioner of Police, Ari Muhammed Ali, who urged members of the public to be law-abiding also advised them to learn from the cases regularly reported by the command and be vigilant when making use of their ATM cards.

The police boss told members of the public to always ensure that only uniformed bank staff are allowed to assist them when the need arises.
