The bomb disposal unit of the Nigeria Police on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, was at Abolongo Custodial Centre in Oyo town, Oyo State, where it detonated two Improvised Explosive Devices brought by the gunmen who invaded the prison on Friday, October 22.
The sound of detonation was heard by many who mistook it for bomb explosions.
An unexploded IED was seen behind a security post by Thenewsbearer while at Abolongo Custodial Centre on Sunday.
The IEDs were reportedly used by the invaders of the custodial centre in order to discomfit the correctional officers, gain entry and release inmates.
The effect of the blast from such explosives was seen on the guard tower erected close to the entrance of the centre.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the state command’s Nigeria Correctional Service, Olanrewaju Anjorin, debunked the rumour of bomb explosion , saying that it was a controlled detonation carried out by experts from bomb disposal unit of the Nigeria Police Force.
Anjorin stated further that the anti-bomb unit was invited to detonate the devices so that lives and property of people around the vicinity would not be endangered.
The commander of Nigeria Hunters Council, Taoheed Olanrewaju, also told Thenewsbearer that he and his men would be on the lookout for more devices and call the attention of authorities to them if found, so that they would also be detonated to forestall danger to innocent people.
