The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, has challenged Senator Sharafadeen Alli to give a comprehensive account of his performance at the National Assembly before seeking to govern the state in 2027.
Adekanmbi said Alli, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District, must demonstrate what he has achieved with the mandate entrusted to him by his constituents rather than rely on references to political offices he occupied in the past.
The challenge was contained in a statement issued on Saturday, November 7, by the Co-Director, Media and Publicity, Oyo State APM Campaign Council (OYSACC), Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju.
The campaign organisation expressed concern that Alli had continued to highlight his political history without making his legislative achievements and constituency interventions the centrepiece of his political engagements.
It insisted that anyone aspiring to govern the entire state must first demonstrate commitment and effectiveness in the office currently occupied, urging the senator to account for his legislative contributions, constituency projects, empowerment programmes and other development initiatives.
According to the organisation, political advancement should be determined by performance, competence and measurable impact rather than political longevity or the number of public offices previously occupied.
“The people of Oyo State cannot be persuaded to reward underperformance with elevation. The question before the electorate is simple: if a senator cannot point to a compelling record of achievements while representing one senatorial district, apart from billboards, on what basis should he be entrusted with the responsibility of governing an entire state?” the statement queried.
The campaign organisation further challenged Alli to present evidence of effective representation, including projects and programmes that had positively affected the lives of people in Oyo South, particularly in youth empowerment, economic development and legislative interventions.
It added that the 2027 governorship election should be about accountability, ideas and verifiable achievements rather than a parade of political titles and previously occupied positions.
The organisation also highlighted Adekanmbi’s Roadmap for Continued Development, which it said was built around accountability, economic growth, infrastructure development, job creation and improved living standards.
It urged Alli to publicly present his Senate scorecard for scrutiny, stressing that the people deserved leaders who could justify their political ambitions with tangible records of service.
“The governorship of Oyo State should not be awarded on the basis of political history. It should be earned through proven competence, measurable achievements and a demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of the people,” the statement added.
