Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Nnewi Sector, in Anambra State Police Command, have arrested a 37-year-old man, Friday Obeta, who was found with an identification card of the proscribed Movement for Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB).
The arrest followed the credible information on how the proscribed organisation has set out plans to enforce sit-at-home order on Friday, May 30, 2025, which the operatives acted on.
Also recovered from Obeta were a motorcycle and a branded T-shirt.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said in a statement that the suspect confessed to being a member and an informant to the proscribed group.
SP Ikenga stated that the suspect has made useful information which is aiding investigation and possible arrest of other gang members.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Dr Ikioye Orutugu, directed the operatives to intensify their operations, going by the suspect’s confessions.
The CP further urged them to step up surveillance operations to thwart any unlawful gathering in the state.
