Following recent assassination of an ICT lecturer in Ogun State, the state Police Command has warned that anyone caught driving an unregistered car or motorcycle will be dealt with.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi made this known in a statement issued on Thursday, November 19, 2020.

Thenewsbearer learnt that the lecturer, Mufutau Waliu of D.S Adegbenro ICT College in Itori community in the state was killed on November 17, 2020, after he was blocked by occupants of an unregistered vehicle, and shot at close range.

After making sure that their target was dead, the assailants reportedly left without taking a single thing from their victim’s car.

The PPRO also said that such cars or motorcycles would be impounded while the owner would be prosecuted.

According to him, “the Ogun State Police Command has observed with great concern, the reckless usage of unregistered vehicles and motorcycles across the State, and the rate at which they are being used to carry out heinous crimes.”

Oyeyemi disclosed a recent case whereby an ICT lecturer was blocked and killed by gunmen at Itori area of the state, using unregistered Lexus SUV.

He advised owners of vehicles with factory-fitted tinted glasses to approach the Command’s Department of Operations for tinted permit certificate, “while those using artificial tinted glasses are advised, in their own interests, to remove them forthwith or face prosecution.”

The PPRO stated further that Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers in the state had been directed to clamp down on those plying the roads with unregistered vehicles, motorcycles, and tinted glass vehicles with no permit.

“As an organization saddled with constitutional responsibility of protection of lives and property, the Command will not fold its arms while criminally-minded individuals make life difficult for good people of the State.

“The Command will therefore do everything within its power and law to bring criminals to their knees, especially as we are approaching the yuletide season,” Oyeyemi said.
