An ex-convict, Timothy Sonyegbe, has been arrested by the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, also known as So-Safe Corps, for allegedly stealing a motorbike.
The suspect, aged 21, was apprehended at a community, Abule Teacher, in Ipokia Local Government Area at about 12:45am on Friday, April 21, 2023.
The Corps’ Director of Information and Public Relations, Moruf Yusuf, who spoke on behalf of the State Commander, Dr Soji Ganzallo, on Sunday, said that the suspect, a vulcaniser by profession and residing at Sonyegbe Compound, Ijofin, in the local government area, was seen riding a motorbike at an odd hour.
Unknown to him, the agency had already placed him on surveillance after he had served a jail term.
Seeing the officers of the Corps in Idiroko Division, under CSC Abdulkareem Abdulrazaq, on routine patrol, the suspect reportedly made an attempt to escape by turning suddenly, which aroused suspicion.
The spokesman disclosed that he was given a hot chase, captured and taken into custody.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the suspect, a two-term ex-convict, had served at Ilaro Correctional Centre for fuel and motorcycle theft.
It was further learnt that during preliminary interrogation, the suspect confessed to stealing the motorbike found with him.
Recovered from him was a Red Boxer Bajaj motorbike with engine number DXWLB46095, Chasis number MD2A18YXUWB5530, and two small Tecno phones.
The PRO said that the suspect and the exhibits had been handed over to Ipokia Division of Ogun State Police Command for further investigation.
