A prophet in Celestial Church of Christ’s Hebrew Parish in Idiroko, Ogun State, Prophet Yomi Adetula, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen who opened fire during an active church service on Sunday, January 29.
Not satisfied with the body of the Prophet already riddled with bullets, the assailants inflicted several deep cuts on his head with an axe to ensure he was dead, and then escaped.
The Ogun State Police Command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident, told Thenewsbearer that the Divisional Police Officer, Idiroko Police State, received the report at about 10:30a.m. that someone had been killed at a Celestial Church located along Old Baggage Road, Odo Eran, Idiroko.
“Police officers quickly arrived at the scene and discovered one Yomi Adetula, a 54-year-old man, lying face up in a pool of blood that had soaked his white garment.
“Upon closer inspection, his body was found to be riddled with bullets, and his head was severely damaged with an axe to confirm that he was indeed dead.
“During the police investigation, it was revealed that three men entered the church, brandished a long double-barreled gun, aimed at their target, and fired a shot that caused chaos, while the assailants later escaped.
“Through police’s efforts, the body was transported to the General Hospital morgue in Ilaro.”
Saying that an arrest has yet to be made, CSP Odutola assured that the police were actively working towards apprehending the fleeing suspects who were said to have escaped from the church towards the border area.
She added that normalcy had been restored in the area, while potential clues were being expected to emerge in the coming days as investigations are ongoing.
