The Kwara State Police Command has commenced an investigation to unravel the mystery behind the killing of a 21-year-old student, Awesu Mojisola, whose corpse was discovered in Ilorin by some people on Sunday, August 11, at about 8pm.
Before the discovery of the corpse, Thenewsbearer learnt that the student of Kwara State College of Health Technology had been missing since August 9 after she was lured by a student of Summit University, identified as Adebayo Happiness, through her friend, one Timileyin, to attend a party with him and act as his girlfriend for a fee of N15,000.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, who said that some suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident, revealed that it was one Mr. Olorunoje of Aleniboro area ilorin, who reported to the police on August 12, at about 7:30am, that he was returning home from the mosque the previous night when a group of labourers informed him of a disturbing discovery of an unidentified female dumped on a refuse dump near Aleniboro area Ilorin.
“Following this report, a team of detectives was immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, the scene was carefully examined and photographed.
“During the initial investigation, traces of blood were found near the left ear of the deceased. The body was subsequently taken to the General Hospital in Ilorin, where a medical examination confirmed that she was dead.
“The body has since been deposited in the hospital morgue. The deceased was later identified as Miss Awesu Mojisola,” the PPRO said.
She stated further that relatedly, on August 13, 2024, at about 4:30pm, the deceased’s roommate, identified as Blessing and residing at Gbomi’s area, Offa, reported to the police that Mojisola had been missing since August 9.
Giving details of Blessing’s explanation, DSP Ejire-Adeyemi said: “According to the report, Miss Mojisola received a phone call on August 9 from one Miss Timileyin, who informed her about an event organised by students of Summit University and Al-Hikmah University in Ilorin.
“Miss Timileyin introduced Mojisola to one Mr. Adebayo Happiness, a student of Summit University, who allegedly invited her to the night party in pretence of having her act as his girlfriend for a fee of N15,000.00.
“Upon her arrival in Ilorin, Miss Mojisola informed her roommate that she felt uncomfortable in the hotel she was lodged in by Adebayo Happiness, and noted that there was no party at the said location.
“Shortly after this communication, her phone was switched off and all subsequent efforts by Miss Blessing to reach her were unsuccessful.
“In light of these developments, the Kwara State Police Command have arrested suspects in connection with the case.
“Investigation is ongoing, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further discreet investigation.”
She added that the Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, has assured the public that all necessary steps were being taken to uncover the truth behind the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
