An Ondo State Magistrate’s Court sitting in Akure has ordered for the remand of a 25-year-old woman, Rebecca Nicodemus, for allegedly stabbing her rival, Precious Nicodemus, to death.
The defendant was said to have committed the offence at her husband’s house at Idogun Village in Ode Irele, the headquarters of Irele Local Government Area of the state on February 4, 2022.
It was gathered that the trouble started when the defendant, who is a junior wife, felt that their husband had been paying much attention to the senior wife (deceased) more than he was doing to her.
On the fateful day, she allegedly confronted the deceased, when she came out of the room where she (deceased) slept with their husband, and an argument ensued between them. The defendant allegedly stabbed the deceased to death in anger.
During the proceedings, the police prosecutor, Obadasa Ajiboye, informed the court that the defendant killed the deceased by stabbing her with a knife at her left backside which led to her death.
He said that the defendant committed the offence at about 5am at Idogun Camp via Ode-Irele in Ondo State.
According to the prosecution, the defendant committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
She however pleaded not guilty to the offence but her plea was not granted by the court. The prosecution made an oral application to remand the defendant in prison custody pending the outcome of advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution.
In his ruling, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni ordered the remand of the defendant in police custody and adjourned the case till February 22, 2022, for ruling on remand application.
