A routine stop-and-search operation by the Delta State Police Command has led to the arrest of two suspected criminals and the recovery of firearms, suspected cocaine, and other items believed to be linked to criminal activities.

The operation was carried out by operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol along the Agbarho–Warri Road on Saturday, July 25, 2026.

Police said the suspects, identified as Omini Ezeri, 46, and Chinedum Wagbara, 42, both from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, were intercepted while travelling in a grey Mercedes-Benz ML SUV bearing registration number AAA 604 JZ.

According to the command, in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, a third occupant of the vehicle, identified as God Knows Ifreke, escaped during preliminary questioning by fleeing into a nearby swamp before officers could apprehend him.

A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded two locally-made Beretta pistols loaded with nine rounds of live ammunition, about 200 grammes of a substance suspected to be cocaine, a walkie-talkie, a dagger, a grinder, and two high-end mobile phones.

Police authorities said the arrested suspects are in custody and are assisting investigators, while efforts have been intensified to track down the fleeing suspect.

Reacting to the operation, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the patrol team for its alertness and professionalism, describing the arrest as another step in the command’s campaign against violent crime and drug-related offences.

He assured residents that the command would sustain intelligence-driven policing and urged members of the public to continue providing useful information that would aid the police in identifying and apprehending criminals across the state.
