A former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Oyo State, Adebayo Mutalubi Ojo, has spoken on a suit seeking the disqualification of the guber candidate of the Accord Party in the 2023 election in Oyo State, saying that he had no hand in it.
In a statement made available to newsmen, Mutalubi Ojo said, “My attention was just drawn to a suit filed by a member of Accord (political party), one Mr Okiki, who was a former member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and who our office had represented at the Election Petition Tribunal in 2015.
“Mr. Okiki was said to have filed a case against Oloye Adebayo Adekola Adelabu and Accord Party at the Federal High Court, Ibadan.
“In the case, the Mr. Okiki is praying the court to nullify the candidature of Oloye Adelabu and all other candidates of Accord in Oyo State.
“The case was filed by Hon. Kazeem Adedeji, a lawyer to Mr. Okiki who used our law firm as his address.
“Prominent indigenes of Ibadanland, friends and well-wishers have called me over the case and they believe I masterminded the case.
“I say it before man and God that I am not in any way in support of the case, though our law firm office address was used as the address for service of the counsel to the Plaintiff in the case.
“I may not be in the same political party with Oloye Adebayo Adelabu in this ongoing political dispensation, but we have very robust and elaborate relationship which predated politics and which also transcend politics, so I will never be a party to the filing and promotion of any law suit in any court that would or may have the effect of truncating the political aspiration of Oloye Adebayo Adekola Adelabu and or any other person at all to be want that person may want to be.
“I am a democrat and as a true democrat, I believe that power or sovereignty lies with the people on the election day who have unfettered rights to vote into office those they wish to represent them at any point in time.
“Also, as a Muslim that I am, the Quran and the Hadith explicitly stated it that it is only Allah (SWT) that enthrones and dethrones kings and rulers.
“I wish Oloye Adebayo Adekola Adelabu as well Engineer Seyi Makinde, my own candidate, Senator Tesleem Folarin and all other candidates vying for one post or the other the very best of luck in their respective political aspirations and whatever endeavours they may be interested in.”
