The Kwara State Police Command on Monday, November 3, arrested an alleged notorious vandal, Samson Ayodele, who specialised in vandalising electricity transformer installations.
The suspect, a resident of Skyway Road, Egbe, Kogi State, was apprehended by operatives of the Eruku Police Division at about 5:50p.m., after he was caught in the act vandalising the transformer supplying electricity to Koro Town in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Items recovered from him included three copper wire bars, a fuse, two connection wire bars, two wooden covers, two aluminium wires, several bolts and nuts, a bag of tools and a digital scale.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, November 6, said that the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation, admitting that he had previously been arrested, charged, and imprisoned in Kogi State for similar offence but returned to the same illegal act after he was released.
The Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, who commended the vigilance of the IBEDC staff and the prompt response of the Eruku Division operatives, assured the public that the Command would not relent in protecting critical infrastructure.
The Commissioner of Police stated: “Acts of vandalism that cripple essential services will never be tolerated in Kwara State. The command will continue to work hand in hand with communities and service providers to identify and apprehend offenders wherever they operate.”
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement around public utilities to the nearest police station.
