More than 1,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State have received food assistance from Fidelity Bank Plc under its Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, as the financial institution intensified efforts to cushion the effects of displacement and food insecurity among vulnerable communities.

The intervention, carried out in partnership with the Plateau State Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Office and the ABBASID Charity Foundation, saw displaced families in transit camps receive essential food items, including bags of rice, cartons of noodles and tomatoes.

Speaking during the distribution, the bank’s Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, said the initiative reflects Fidelity Bank’s commitment to improving the welfare of disadvantaged Nigerians through sustainable corporate social responsibility programmes.

According to him, the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative was established to provide relief to vulnerable groups across the country, particularly communities affected by economic hardship and displacement.

“We are delighted to be in Mangu to support families whose lives have been disrupted by conflict. Our hope is that this intervention will ease their burden and provide much-needed nourishment for affected households,” Nwagboh said.

He explained that the food bank has become one of the bank’s flagship CSR programmes, serving as a platform to support national efforts aimed at reducing hunger and improving the living conditions of underserved communities.

Project Coordinator of the Plateau State Sustainable Development Goals Office, Mrs. Nanbam Danjuma-Lot, described the donation as timely, noting that many families in the camps continue to struggle after attacks that forced them from their homes.

She commended Fidelity Bank and its partners for responding to the humanitarian needs of the displaced persons, saying the collaboration demonstrates a shared commitment to restoring hope to affected communities.

Also speaking, Founder of the ABBASID Charity Foundation, Mrs. Hauwa Abbas, stressed the importance of partnerships in tackling food insecurity, revealing that the organisation, working with Fidelity Bank, has extended food support to between 32 and 40 communities across Nigeria.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, the Village Head of Changal Community, Mr. Titus Abednago, expressed gratitude to Fidelity Bank, the Plateau State Government and other partners for the intervention.

He described the gesture as a source of hope for displaced families and appealed for sustained efforts to restore peace to the affected communities so residents could return to their farms and rebuild their livelihoods.

Fidelity Bank Plc serves more than 10 million customers through its digital platforms, 255 business offices across Nigeria and its United Kingdom subsidiary, FidBank UK Limited.

The bank has received several local and international recognitions for its banking services and social impact, including awards for MSME support, export and trade finance, private banking, innovation and community empowerment.
