Operatives of Ogun State Police Command, on Friday July 9, 2021, arrested five suspects who allegedly connived together to abduct an eight-year-old boy, Sadiq Abass.
The names of the suspects were given as AbdulRaman Umar, Falalu Abubakar, Danjuma Bako, Idris Lawal and Fauziya Falalu.
Confirming the arrest of the suspects in a statement on Sunday, July 11, 2021, the police spokesman in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said that the suspects were picked up after one Riliwan Mohammed reported at Ogere divisional headquarters that he left his wife and three children at home at about 12 noon, only for him to receive a phone call from a strange number that his eight-year-old son had been abducted.
The PPRO said that the complainant stated further that the caller demanded for N3.5 million as ransom if he would like to see his son alive.
This, Oyeyemi said, made the Divisional Police Officer, Ogere division, CSP Abiodun Ayinde, to mobilize crack detectives to go after the hoodlums.
After technical and intelligence-based investigation, the detectives reportedly got to the hideout of the suspects where they were arrested and the victim rescued unhurt.
The police image-maker added that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to anti-kidnapping unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
The police commissioner also directed an in-depth investigation into the past activities of the suspects, in order to know how long they had been in the kidnap crime.
