Four suspected traffic robbers have been arrested by police operatives attached to Satellite and Aguda Divisions of Lagos State Police Command.
The two police divisions had nabbed two suspects respectively, at different locations in their areas of jurisdiction.
According to a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in Sunday, February 21, 2021, the Satellite Division arrested two suspected traffic armed robbers along Agboju/Alakija on Lagos-Badagry highway on Friday, February 19, at 10:35p.m.
The two suspects, Solomon Ayuba (26) and Manase David (20), were caught in the act by the police when they were attacking unsuspecting commuters in the area.
Other members of the gang had fled when they sighted the police, the PPRO stated.
Adejobi disclosed that police operatives had placed suspected armed robbers on surveillance for some days before they were eventually arrested.
Items recovered from them included a locally-made pistol, some cartridges and two face masks.
Also, operatives attached to Aguda Division arrested two suspected traffic robbers, Ismail Abayomi (24) and Seun Akinbinu (25), on February 20, at about 1:35p.m., while they were attacking and robbing a Toyota Sienna bus with registration number AAA 30 AZ.
The bus was reportedly driven by one Apele Mohammed, on transit at Olatunji Onimole Street by Brown Junction.
The PPRO explained that the suspects and others at large attacked the bus, broke its side screen and robbed one Atinuke Adisa of her Infinix-8 phone.
In another development, operatives attached to the office of the Area Commander, Area E Festac, arrested two suspects with some vandalised rail tracks belonging to the Nigerian Railway Corporation on February 20, at about 4pm.
Adejobi said that policemen, who were on routine check, stopped the vehicle driven by one Victor Akpan (21) of Ijora, and his accomplice, one Adesina Folorunsho, of 36, Biefield, Apapa Road, and discovered the vandalised rail tracks in the said vehicle.
When interrogated, the police spokesman said that they could not give a satisfactory account of the vandalised items, but claimed that they got them from some miscreants .
He added that state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu had ordered that the suspected traffic robbers be taken to State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, for investigation.
Odumosu also directed the Area ‘E’ Commander at Festac to work with his Divisional Police Officers, and intensify efforts to trace the fleeing traffic robbers and carry out thorough investigation on the vandalised rail tracks.
