The Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Kwara State Chapter, Alhaji Idris Abubakar Sakaina, was on Saturday, March 8, at about 10p.m., shot dead by gunmen.
Thenewsbearer reports that the incident occurred in front of his residence at Oke Ose, Oke-Oyi.
The deceased is survived by two wives and six children.
However, the state police command has commenced investigation into the matter, with a promise by the Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The Kwara State Police Command’s spokeswoman, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, March 9, said that police detectives responded swiftly and recovered five expended 7.62mm shells.
She stated that his remains had been deposited in the mortuary at University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.
The PPRO added: “The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has commenced a full investigation.
“CP Victor Olaiya assures that the perpetrators will be brought to justice and urges the public to remain calm and provide useful information.
Meanwhile, the deceased has been buried according to Islamic rites, according to a statement by MACBAN’s Public Relations Officer in the state, Abubakar Muhammad Kangodabe, early on Sunday.
Expressing members’ sorrow for their leader’s death, the PRO disclosed in the statement that Janaza (funeral prayer) for the late chairman would take place at Zango, Ilorin, by 10a.m.
The Association prayed that God should grant the deceased’s family and loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
