Miscreants numbering about 30 on Thursday, January 28, 2021, stormed Mapo Police Station to forcefully set free two of their members arrested over the killing of a woman earlier, leading to the death of another member.
The incident occurred at about 11:45a.m., at Odo-Osun Area of Mapo, where some police personnel were deployed to arrest two miscreants suspected to have been involved in the crisis rocking Shogoye/Akobi areas of Mapo lately, leading to the fatal shooting of a 60-year-old woman, Modupe Daramola.
According to the police spokesman in the state, CSP Olugbenga Fadeyi, who spoke on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko, woman, armed thugs from Shogoye/Akobi areas had unleashed mayhem, leading to Daramola’s death and grievous hurts on innocent residents in the two areas.
Thenewsbearer learnt that that the deceased woman, a white garment church faithful, was hit by pellets from gunshot released by one of the hoodlums during one of their clashes on Monday, January 25, at about 6a.m., at Akobi area.
She was immediately pronounced dead, while others sustained different degrees of injuries.
This incident had led to the arrest of the two suspected miscreants on January 28, and they were handcuffed and taken to Mapo police station for interrogation.
However, the PPRO stated, one of the hoodlums, popularly known as ‘Packaging’, led the 30 thugs to the police station, attacked the police team on operation, and forcefully took the two miscreants from them.
As the police personnel were being mobbed, Fadeyi said that they shot into the air to escape from being lynched.
About 30 minutes after, at about 12:20p.m., one Akeem,with some angry miscreants, stormed the police station to report that his younger brother was shot.
While they attempted attempted to attack the police station, the miscreants also vandalised some cars at the junction leading to the street where the law enforcement agency is situated.
It was gathered that the police personnel had to be strategically positioned, to prevent a repeated attack on the station and repel the mob.
Not too long after, at about 1:50p.m., the mob was said to have brought the corpse of one Badmus Rasheed, aged 20.
“The Commissioner of Police wishes to appeal to parents and guardians in the two areas to warn their wards to desist from acts capable of causing breakdown of law and order, as massive deployment of police personnel and that of sister security agencies have been emplaced to forestall further crisis,” CSP Fadeyi said.
