In its move to combat trans-border crime, the Nigeria Police Force has recovered three vehicles stolen from Nigeria in Niger Republic.

This made the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali to commend the synergy among 194 member countries of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) which has facilitated worldwide police cooperation for enhanced crime control.

The IGP also praised the efforts of operatives of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), INTERPOL section, for leveraging the platform made available through INTERPOL to curb trans-border crimes, especially those that cascade into other neighbouring African countries.

This was made known in a statement by the Force Police Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Friday, June 24, 2022.

Making this remark on the successful recovery of the three vehicles stolen from Nigeria, the IGP said that the achievement was recorded following credible intelligence and physical support from operatives of INTERPOL in Niamey, the nation’s capital, which aided the trailing of a trans-border car theft syndicate and the eventual recovery of their loot.

The investigation, which lasted for several days, led to the recovery of a Toyota Camry with chassis number 4T1BE46K47U673141, Mercedes Benz 2012 550GL with chassis number 4JGBF8GE8CA762560 and a Hyundai vehicle with chassis number KMHDH41EBDU54686.

The IGP described such a multilateral relationship as vital to nip crimes and criminality in the bud.

He urged members of the public to report cases of stolen vehicles so that prompt and necessary action would be taken towards their recovery within or outside the country.

The Inspector-General of Police also enjoined Nigerians to take advantage of the cooperation to recover their stolen items, particularly vehicles, and urged the owners of the found vehicles to approach the Nigeria Police Force Criminal Investigations Department, INTERPOL Section, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, for the claims of their vehicles, with valid proofs of ownership and proper means of identification.

He said that investigation into the matter was still ongoing to arrest all persons involved in the matter.
