A 43-year-old man, Abiodun Oladapo, was on Friday, March 24, arrested by detectives in Ogun State Police Command for allegedly impregnating his teenage daughter (name withheld).
The police spokesman in the state, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in a statement on Saturday that the police got to know about the incident when Mrs Oluwatoyin Idowu, the mother of the pregnant girl’s boyfriend, reported at Mowe Police Station that the claim that her son, Michael, was responsible for the pregnancy was false.
She rejected the pregnancy, saying that her findings from ultrasound scan showed that the girl had been pregnant before she had sexual relationship with her son.
Thenewsbearer learnt that the scan showed that the teenager’s pregnancy was over five months old while she had sexual intercourse with her boyfriend in December 2022, which was three months ago.
The PPRO said that when the girl, who will turn 19 in June, was invited, she told the police that her father, who had been having sexual relationship with her early in 2022, was responsible for the pregnancy, and that he threatened to kill her if she informed anyone of it.
“Upon her confession, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Mowe division, SP Folake Afeniforo, detailed detectives to go after the randy father, and he was subsequently arrested.
“On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime, blaming it on the devil,” SP Oyeyemi disclosed.
He said that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, who had long separated with the victim’s mother, took custody of the girl from her grandmother whom she was living with, as her mother had remarried.
He and his daughter had been living together since then.
The state Commissioner of Police, Frank Mba, has directed that the suspect be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran , Abeokuta, for further investigation.
