The Secretary General of the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL), Mr Valdecy Urquiza, has hosted the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, in Lyon, France, as Nigeria seeks to deepen international cooperation in the fight against transnational crime.
Disu made his maiden official visit to the INTERPOL General Secretariat in Lyon on Monday, October 5, 2026, where he held discussions with Urquiza and other senior officials of the organisation.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in cybercrime, counter-terrorism, financial crime, organised crime, fugitive tracking and intelligence sharing, as well as enhancing the effective use of INTERPOL databases and policing tools.
The engagement also provided an opportunity to review Nigeria’s participation in INTERPOL-supported initiatives and identify additional areas of technical and operational collaboration.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the discussions are expected to strengthen criminal intelligence analysis, cross-border investigations and efforts to disrupt transnational criminal networks.
The IGP was accompanied by AIG Olaolu Adegbite, Head of INTERPOL Nigeria and National Central Bureau, Abuja; AIG Ezima Akaninyene Ifem, Director, Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre; AIG Akoh Benedict Gabriel, Head of the Nigeria Police Counter Terrorism Unit; and CP Ojajuni Olubode, INTERPOL Africa Committee Member.
The FPRO said the Nigeria Police Force remained committed to strengthening cooperation with INTERPOL and other international law-enforcement partners.
He said the Force would continue to leverage intelligence, technology and global policing capabilities to combat evolving security threats and prevent criminal networks from operating across borders.
