The Oyo State Government has declared Monday, October 5, 2026, a work-free day for all teachers across the state to commemorate this year’s Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Day.
The declaration was contained in a circular issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde, according to a statement signed by the Special Adviser (Media) to the Governor of Oyo State, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, on Sunday, October 4.
The government said that the gesture underscores its commitment to the welfare, dignity and professional development of teachers, whom it described as the backbone of the state’s education system and critical drivers of human capital development.
The work-free day is also expected to enable teachers to participate fully in activities marking the NUT Day celebration, reflect on developments in the education sector and strengthen unity among members of the teaching profession.
The state government congratulated teachers on the occasion and reaffirmed its commitment to policies and programmes aimed at improving teaching and learning across Oyo State.
