The police in Kano State, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel, arrested and prosecuted 2,931 suspects in 2023, according to a statement made available to Thenewsbearer by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
The statement by Kiyawa revealed that 337 suspects were arrested for armed robbery, 55 for kidnapping, 65 for drug dealing, 68 for vehicle stealing, 57 for stealing tricycles, 76 for stealing motorcycles, 59 arrested for fraud, among others.
The police spokesperson added that operatives of the command also rescued 25 kidnap victims and 63 trafficking victims.
On the recoveries made in the outcome year, Kiyawa said that they included four AK-47 rifles, one Sub Machine Gun (SMG), three Beretta pistols, eight double-barrel guns, two Makarov pistols and five English pistols.
Others were 53 locally-made guns, 12 dane guns, 14 toy guns, 83 live ammunition and 26 cartridges .
Also recovered were 205 vehicles, 34 tricycles and 86 motorcycles, among others.
The police spokesman said that the Commissioner of Police congratulated the people of the state for the successes and significant milestones achieved in ensuring peace and peaceful coexistence in the state, just as he sought for more support in the new year.
